CaineAbels
Red Exclusiv alias "Robyn" finally came home in November 2004. I had
first seen dogs from Ulla Thedin's
CaineAbels Kennel
whilst on a visit to Sweden in 1999. Accompanied by Gill Lawless
(Faahac)
I attended the Swedish Club Speciality judged by Mr Sammy Wallace from South
Africa. In the bitch classes were CaineAbels Red Lotus and her dam
CaineAbels Red Fiona, 2 very lovely specimens of the breed. At the time Pet
Passports were not in existence so importing dogs was not easy .
In 2002 we had decided that the time was right to introduce new blood lines
into our Kennel and this is where fate took a hand!! We heard that a son of
Saragwe Nozipo Mwingereza (exported to
Hayawani Kennel by Rob
and Sue Gilmour, Saragwe
Kennel UK) was to be mated to CaineAbels Red Sandawana a daughter of CA
Red Lotus!!. We had to see if it was possible to import something from that
litter. After several visits to Sweden, lots of e-mails, phone calls, plans
and re-plans we have finally realised the dream of combining what we saw in
1999 with our own foundation lines. Robyn is a great, great, granddaughter
of our foundation bitch Ellie.
Since
joining us Robyn has certainly livened up our home. She had her first
"season" shortly after arriving and
Merlin, our 10
year old boy was certain that she had been bought specially for him!! The
girls have never played as much. Our fears about acceptance on their behalf
were quickly allayed. After 2 days we were able to take a photo of all
5 dogs on the sofa together. A testament to their sound temperaments!
19th August An overnight stay at the Metropole in Llandidrod Wells meant a short trip to the Royal Welsh showground at Builth Wells. We were judged by breed specialist Mrs. Charlotte Strickland who placed us 3rd in the Post Graduate class behind 2 very nice bitches. We are up with the" bigger" girls now and Robyn looks the baby again. Gill had another good day winning the Reserve C.C. and the Junior stakes. (She went back to compete for overall winner on the Sunday but was unfortunately beaten into Runner up spot by a very good Irish Water Spaniel.) Nevertheless 2 very good placings!!
6th August Yet another cold blowy day....what has happened to the glorious summer that was forecast?!!! The Hound show at Stafford saw us huddled in coats and rugs waiting to be judged by breed specialist Mr. Harry Brown. Robyn was placed 3rd in the Special Yearling class. She is definitely a "hot-dog", does not like the wind and rain and cannot see why I would want her to stand in a show ring when the temperature drops below18 degrees!!
8th
July South Wales Championship show today and the breed
was judged by Mrs. Marilyn Pursglove. Robyn was entered in the Post Graduate
class and was placed 1st.
28th June We are very pleased with the results of Robyn's hip and elbow x-rays. The scores for hips are 5:5 and the elbows 0.
25th June Mr. Jack Selby (Eilack) judged today at Blackpool Championship show. Robyn is 18 months old today and so this was her last entry in the Junior class which she won from an entry of 6. She was also awarded 3rd place in the Graduate class (7 entries).
18th/19th June After a pleasant stay in Yetholm we (Gill Lawless, Fiyaa, Ambaa Robyn and myself) made the short journey to Kelso to the Border Union Agricultural Society Championship show. Our judge was Mr. John Walton-Haddon. Robyn was placed 4th out of 9 in the Junior class and 2nd out of 6 entries in the Post Graduate class. The following day Robyn and I went to Southwell Race Course where Alfreton & District C.S. an Open show. Unfortunately Robyn was the only Ridgeback present and so won all 3 classes and Best of Breed, rather a hollow victory. Mr. Ian Sexton (Greenmile) judged the Group and from 15 hounds present Robyn was awarded Best in Group a very pleasing result for Mrs.Malinda Thomas who judged the breed.
14th June At Three Counties Championship show Mrs. Liz Storey (Kiromol) judged an entry of 39 Ridgebacks (without C.C.s) and awarded Robyn 2nd place in the Junior bitch class (5 entries). She was also entered in the Special Yearling Stakes and was placed 5th from an entry of 44.
11th June Mrs. Melanie Dunn (Khananga) (breed specialist) judged an entry of 105 Ridgebacks at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Great Britain Club show. Robyn was entered in 2 classes, Junior and Special Yearling bitch. She was awarded 1st place in both classes from an entry of 10 and 5 respectively. She was also awarded the Worthit Cup for Best Descendent of Int.Ch. Ben Hur of Thornbury and the Footpath Trophy for the Best Descendent of Ch. Mingo of Mancross.
23rd May Today we took Robyn for her hips and elbows scoring, watch this space!!!
20th May Another wintry day and another wet and windy show ground! Scottish Kennel Club Championship show Judged by breed specialist Ms. Anthea Fox (Sonstraal). Robyn was unplaced in her Junior class but was placed 3rd in the Yearling class. She seems to have hit that "coltish stage" and will now be shown selectively until she matures on.
14th/15th May A busy weekend with shows both Saturday and Sunday both with breed specialist judges. Jacquie Cook (Nkunde) judged the breed at Border Counties Hound show. Robyn won both her classes and Best of Breed. On Sunday we travelled to Sacrewell Farm near Peterborough where the judge was Mrs. Alex Schofield (Ousebay). She had a good entry judge and Robyn was placed 2nd in both her classes..Yearling and Post Graduate. We also entered the Junior Stakes class and were pleased to take 3rd place.
8th May Back to winter today at Birmingham Championship show. We had hail, heavy rain, thunder and lightening and Robyn wished she was at home on the sofa!! She was unplaced in her class and couldn't wait to get back in the car and go home. I must say it's days like this that I wonder why I do it!
1st May We started the new month off well with a good result at Newark and Nottingham Agricultural show. Robyn was placed 1st in the Junior ,Post Graduate and Open classes and was awarded Best of Breed. In the Best in Show ring she made the final 8 dogs from an entry of 663 dogs!!
24th March After travelling to Holland with Gill Lawless and Fiyaa we met up with Ambaa (gill's new puppy) and Mary and had our first experience of showing on the continent. Robyn was entered in the Junior class and was placed 2nd. She was called back into the ring to challenge for the Reserve CAC which was eventually won by her travelling companion Fiyaa!! As usual she behaved impeccably and she certainly enjoyed playing on the beach with Fiyaa and Ambaa after the show!
16th March we travelled up to Selkirk to attend the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Scotland Open show judged by Hound all-rounder Mr. Paul Singleton. Robyn was entered in 2 classes and was placed first in both. Once again she was awarded Reserve Best Bitch in Show. After challenging the winner of the Junior and Post Graduate dog classes she was also declared Best Junior and Best Post Graduate in Show.
26th March At the Midland and Northern Open Show we had a change of judge. Unfortunately breed specialist Mrs. Gillian Craven (Hespa) was involved in an accident 2 days before show and was unable to carry out her duties. I'm sure she was very disappointed at having to miss this prestigious appointment. The replacement judge was Mrs. Trish Wells all rounder Hound specialist. Robyn was entered in 2 classes( Junior and Graduate ) and was placed first in both.! Much to our delight she was also awarded Reserve Best Bitch in Show from an entry of 49 bitches.
27th February We made the long journey up to the North East of England to the Easington and Peterlee Canine Society Open show. This is a show supported by the Midland and Northern Ridgeback Club. Unfortunately the date clashed with Club's A.G.M. and so the entry was not large. Mr Bob Hernandez awarded Robyn 2nd in the Graduate class and 1st in the Open class. It was lovely to see Mwenga Mystical Moonlight owned by Mrs Gill Hanson take Best of Breed and 3rd in the Hound Group.
20th February At Ashton Under Lyne Open show the judge was Mr. Nigel Luxmore Ball. He placed Robyn 2nd in the Junior class, 1st in the Post Graduate class and 1st in the Open class.
13th
February We went to North West Canine Society
Open show where Hound Group all rounder Mrs Pamela Mottershaw judged
the breed. Robyn won the Junior class, was placed 2nd in the Post Graduate
class and 4th in the Open class. The judge wrote the following critique;
Agnew's CaineAbels Red Xclusiv...Very impressed by this lovely 13months old
r/w bitch, with much to admire. Classic head, strong neck running into clean
shoulders. Deep chest. Feminine overall yet functional. Maturing along
pleasing lines and should finish well. Good ridge and crowns. Well bent
stifles. Moved true with active free flowing gait. One to watch as she
matures and should finish well.
20th January 2005 Robyn
attended the first General Championship Show of the year...Manchester Dog
Show Society, she was entered in the Junior bitch class [for bitches aged 12
to 18 months]. From an entry of 13, the judge Mr Colin Ashmore awarded her
first place and her qualification for Crufts 2006!!! Critique;
1st. Agnew's CaineAbels Red Xclusiv(Imp). Well balanced, correct
proportions. Pleasing head shape and outline. Nice level topline. Good tail
set. Strong rear quarters. Good turn of stifle. Free and active movement.
10th December 2004
Robyn attended her 1st Championship Show at the Ladies Kennel Association.
She was awarded 2nd place in a class of 11 puppy bitches by breed specialist
Mr Brian Firth, and had qualified for Crufts 2005. We were delighted
not only with her placing but with her behaviour both in and out of the
ring. She is a credit to her breeding. We look forward to campaigning her in
2005!Robyn's critique for L.K.A.;
2nd. CaineAbels Red Xclusiv (Imp). Calm wheaten feminine exhibit with
lovely symmetrical outline. Head, neck topline,tail set all as it should be.
