Litter Diary

12th May - Another black day for Mwenga Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Today after battling for 33 days "little boy" finally gave up his fight for life. He seemed to be responding to T.L.C. and excellent vet. care but took a down turn during the night. He had developed pneumonia and after examination the joint decision was taken to prevent him further suffering. If courage and a big heart was all that had been necessary to survive we would not have lost him. Sleep well "little man".

2nd May - Unfortunately today we have had  to have one of the liver nosed girls "put to sleep". She had started vomiting after being introduced to semi solid food. I took her to the vets this morning and Graham suspected that she may have a condition called "mega oesophagus". This means that the food sticks in the gullet and does not pass into the stomach, as the pressure builds the food is expelled causing the pup varying degrees of distress. This condition is typically seen at weaning and as the pup can only take a liquid diet correct development is not possible. The puppy was given a plain x-ray to confirm the diagnosis and as we had previously discussed the long term prospects of the puppy it was decided to end her very short life. We  know that owning and especially breeding dogs can be a very rewarding experience, it can also give us some of our blackest days.

16th April - All puppies are progressing well and after a little supplementary feeding they are gaining weight steadily. Their ears are starting to "drop" and their eyes are opening! Gillian (Milo's owner ) and Kate (already owns a Milo daughter) came to visit on their way home from a meeting close by. They spent a happy hour inspecting the new arrivals and I'm glad to report they liked what they saw but we're all a little biased aren't we!

10th April - After "cat napping" (an inappropriate pun) through the night I can confirm that all puppies are feeding well and seem to be sleeping more than we are!!

It is with great pleasure that we announce that  Robyn's Litter has been born

Robyn -  our Swedish import CaineAbels Red Xclusiv (Robyn) was mated to Champion Sonstraal Baron Samedi (Milo) on the 5th February and today the 9th April we are pleased to announce that Robyn safely delivered a healthy litter of 12 puppies, (there were 13 !!!unfortunately we lost 1 girl) and so now have 7 boys and 5 girls. We have 5 boys with good ridges and crowns, 1 boy (black nose) has a kinked tail and 1 boy (liver nose) has a short ridge. Of the 5 girls, 1black nosed girl has offset crowns, 1 liver nosed girl has a short ridge and the other liver nosed girl appears to have a crown on her head. No puppies have excess white  and after first check for D.S. all are clear so far. Mother and babies are doing well and Aunty Megan has already been in the "box" to inspect the pups and welcome them home.
