Fae was our most vocal
ridgeback and had an opinion on most things! Unlike her half sister - Megan
- she enjoyed being shown (most days!) and as a result did very well in the
ring.
She started her "show career" in March '98 at Darwen CS where she was awarded Best Puppy in Breed and Best of Breed at 6 months and 11 days old from an entry of 6. She continued her winning ways through the Junior classes, being the first Ridgeback to gain her Junior Warrant after the "3 per class" rule was made. She was also the first Ridgeback to qualify for Crufts from a Best in Show win under Mr.Frank Kane--Bolton C.S. New Years Day show.
Away from the show ring Fae was awarded her Kennel Cub Good Citizen's Award in February 2000 and gained her first obedience certificate at the age of 8 months! She produced her only litter on my birthday ! 11th February 2001.A lovely present sired by Ch. Gunthwaite Action Man.
At the beginning of 2005 Fae had an operation to have 2 tumours removed and although she made a remarkable recovery our vet could not guarantee that the cancer had not spread. She was well enough to be shown at the Midland and Northern Club show where she was Best Veteran in Show(Judge Mrs. Trish Wells). Unfortunately Fae needed a further operation on the 12 May but once again thanks in part to our wonderful veterinary practice she was back to her usual "bossy self" within a couple of weeks! She was entered at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Great Britain Open show where she was placed 2nd in the Veteran class by breed specialist Judge Mrs Melanie Dunn.
Although we did not know it this was to be her last show. Towards the end of June we noticed a change in Fae's behaviour, she had become withdrawn and did not want to be around the other dogs. Megan had had a litter of pups on the 30th of June and Fae took no interest in them, this was totally out of character. We took her to see our vet and after a long discussion it was decided to try a "last ditch " medication and although in some respects it appeared to work Fae was lost to us. She was like a shadow of herself, the light had gone from her eyes and we knew we had to "let her go". She crossed Rainbow Bridge on 22nd July and is now running free with Dee, Merlin ,Shula, Meara and her mother Fahaac Feri and is hopefully back to being bossy!

Following Fae's success in England we (Gill Lawless and myself) decided to "do the Irish Circuit". We had been told to expect a different kind of show scene and it was!!! I can heartily recommend a holiday incorporating the 5 Irish Championship Shows in August. We had a great time both in and out of the show ring. Fae at 11 months was still in the puppy class and won her class at all 5 shows! As a result she was awarded Top Rhodesian Ridgeback Puppy 1998......Pedigree Chum/Dogs Review Puppy Competition.
