One sunny day in August we collected Ellie from Wilf & Betty Webster.  This was to be the start of a "love affair" with Ridgebacks!  Costly, time consuming, exhilarating and sometimes heartbreaking - but never dull!

Ellie was never a show girl, don't get me wrong - she enjoyed it - anyone who saw her in the ring would agree!  She was 7 1/2 before she was awarded her stud book number.

Her talents lay elsewhere.  She was the Dam of 5 champions, 3 by G.B. N.Z. Ch. Iannto of Janak - Marijka, Maverick & Kintu (Sweden) & 2 by G.B. Nor. Ch Jespah Alekzandr of Janak - Massengai & Hentiesbaai.

In all to date her progeny have won 23 CC's, 11 RCC's and 2 Reserve Green Stars.

B.I.S. - M & N Ch. show - '95 - Maverick

R.B.I.S. - G.B. Open Show - '96 - Hennie

R.B.I.S. - G.B. Open Show - '97 - Maatii

B.I.S. - G.B. Open Show ' -99 - Merlin

Above all Ellie was a 'generous' dog.  She was 'best friend' to the children in my care and as a Registered P.A.T. dog (Pets As Therapy) she was well known at the local school, playgroup and nursing home where she enjoyed Maltesers, apples and particularly ginger biscuits.

In June 1999 she had an operation to remove a tumour on her spleen.  She appeared to be making an excellent recovery.  However, this was not to be.  On my return from a trip to Sweden in August Michael had the onerous task of telling me of her death.  Years on, the pain is less and memories give pleasure, reminding us of a friend, and companion who gave so much and asked so little.

In short she is irreplaceable.
